If you have a PV plant, you can charge your car with solar ener­gy from your own roof. Most charg­ers allow only 3‑phase charg­ing that needs a min­i­mum pow­er of 4.14 kW to start oper­at­ing. There­fore, any PV sur­plus below this wattage can­not be used, and is fed into the pub­lic grid instead. In fact, with a reg­u­lar res­i­den­tial rooftop PV plant of 5–10 kWp, there is only rarely a sur­plus of 4.14 kW or more, so more often than not your elec­tric vehi­cle will not be charged with solar ener­gy. With the Solar­na­tive Charge­Whiz, even a small sur­plus can be used to charge your car, because the device allows 1‑phase-charg­ing start­ing at 1.38 kW. This way, you can charge your elec­tric car from the sun most of the time — what a warm feeling!

With its bidi­rec­tion­al charg­ing capa­bil­i­ty, the Solar­na­tive Charge­Whiz is ready for the future of e‑mobility: it allows home­own­ers to inte­grate their bidi­rec­tion­al elec­tric car into the Smart Ener­gy Home as extra stor­age unit. Dur­ing the day, the smart sur­plus charg­ing func­tion­al­i­ty feeds unused solar ener­gy from your PV plant into the car mak­ing it avail­able from the vehicle’s bat­tery when it is need­ed lat­er in the day, e.g. for cook­ing your fam­i­ly dinner.

Charg­ing con­fig­u­ra­tions are eas­i­ly con­trolled with the Solar­na­tive App. As with all Solar­na­tive devices, no data cables are required, as com­mu­ni­ca­tion is com­plete­ly wireless.
